JBS partcipating in INDIA TODAY COCLAVE 2011
Jaypee Group was the co-sponsor of the India Today Conclave 2011 that recently concluded at the Hotel Taj Palace in New Delhi. The conclave was on the theme ‘CHANGING BALANCE OF POWER’. Total of 16 students from jaypee including four from JBS participated in this conclave. The students selected from JBS were Saurabh Goel, Arpit Mathur, Kumar Pallav and Bithika Bishesh. The speakers included top politicians, entertainers, technologists and also Vijender Singh, the lone sportsman who got a standing ovation after his short but frank speech on our obsession with Cricket.
The inaugural keynote address was given by Dr. Manmohan Singh and Aroon purie,Editor in chief, India today.
There was Shah Rukh Khan who lamented the fact that despite the burgeoning Indian software industry, we don’t have enough people skilled in visual effects required for film-making.
The “digital debate” session with Sir Tim Berners Lee, Joshua Klein and Wael Ghonim was particularly interesting. Wael compared how the Egyptian revolution was like Wikipedia where everyone contributed their own bit selflessly and that there was no real hero.
Unlike most other conferences where the audiences are often engrossed with their mobile phones or laptops, the India Today event was a different experience. The people were genuinely interested in what the speakers had to say and this was quite evident from the Q& As that happened after every panel.
Ashim chatterjee, aka Kaka, leader of the Communist Revolutionary League of India, debated on how the Maoists would eventually degenerate into social terrorism. The debate also had participants like- Lt Gen (retd) Jacob, Military mastermind and former Governor, Punjab and Goa ; Latha Reddy, Deputy National Security Advisor; Aziz Ahmad Khan, Former Pakistan Ambassador to Afghanistan and High Commissioner to India.
Other eminent speakers were Jairam Ramesh, Arun Jaitley, Praful Patel, Mani Shankar Aiyer, Farooq Abdullah, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Narendra Modi, Subramaniam Swamy, Aitzaz Ahsan, Maulana Mahmood Madani, Fatima Bhutto.

A student of our jaypee business school- Bithika Bishesh, questioning ElBaradei, stated “There have been reports from IAEA, chastisising Egypt for not disclosing its atomic research activities. Why is it that Egypt has never come clean about the full scope of its nuclear activities?”
Addressing the future of the youth were, Imtiaz Ali, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjiv Bajaj.
The concluding gala dinner was with Sarah Palin, first female governor of Alaska and republican vice-presidential nominee. Ms.Palin made numerous references to America’s entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit, and India’s unlocking of the same to become a vibrant global giant.
The students also got to meet Clive Lloyd, Mohammad Azharuddin, Arjuna Ranatunga, Javed Akhtar, Shatrughan Sinha, Rahul Bajaj, Amar Singh, Smriti Irani.
